Family Fun Day

We have recently sent round a survey to all residents to gauge the interest and opinions about this annual event. If you would still like to contribute to this survey please contact Don Sheffield on 6557 6877.

July 2010 Report

Once again the Forster Keys Family Fun Day was a great success on Sunday 11th July as the showers struggled to break through the sunshine on the reserve at Pipers Creek.

Some thought crowd numbers were down this year, but the event was spread over a wider area, and a count of cars and hungry food purchases indicated a peak of around 5,000.

The Dragon Boats were a new feature this year, but unfortunately not able to race as the Taree boat didn’t make it! The Kiddies Games were very well patronised with many events being held over several heats to accommodate the eager young contestants.

The YMCA put on an hour display of Pilates, Aerobatics and the Zumba, all accompanied by thumping music and breathless instruction, keeping the participants on their toes and the crowd tapping their feet.

The Dog Show fortunately managed to just beat the rain. Our four legged friends were unperturbed by the showers, and the two legged variety entered into the spirit and dispensed with their umbrellas! Judge Vet Rob McMahon in short sleeved shirt was clearly in holiday mood, and Mayor Jan McWilliams presented the prizes before dashing off to her next damp appointment at the footie!

On the water the power boats roared into action, including the kiddies power boats driven by 10-11 year olds at around 50-60 kph, and radio controlled model boats. The static displays of vintage boats, motor bikes, classic cars and model steam engines were also very popular.

Food and drinks were available all day and the general consensus was it was a fantastic weekend of fun for all the family. The event is hosted and organised by the Forster Keys Progress and Ratepayers Association with a lot of input from Fred Williams and his boaties.

Our hosts would like to thank all the residents who volunteered their time to help organise and run the weekend, Robert McMahon for judging the dog show, Mayor Jan McWilliams for presenting the prizes, and the many local businesses that provided sponsorship in one form or another:
