5th & 6th July -
Elizabeth Reserve
Once again our Family Fun Weekend was a rip-roaring success this
year, as the sun finally shone on the reserve at Pipers Creek. Have a look
at the photo gallery and see for yourself!
The crowd was estimated to be around 6,000 as they browsed the
Markets, cheered on the kiddies in the Sack Race, the Three-legged Race and
the Limbo, and laughed at the antics in the Dog Show. The Jazz Band played,
the Chocolate Wheel spun, the Castle bounced, faces were painted and the
miniature steam engines chugged and spluttered. GL FM radio station kept up
a wonderful commentary, drawing the crowds into the events, and playing
requests live on air. The Rhee-Tae-Kwon-Do and Bonsai demonstrations gave
us all insight into something new.
The weekend provided something for all ages. There was a fishing
clinic for the youngsters, vintage cars and motor cycles, displays by the
SES, Rural Fire Brigade, St John’s Ambulance and of course lots of
delicious food.
Then finally the power boats roared into action on the water,
thrilling the spectators with their speed, noise and agility. The
commentary gave everybody technical details as well as identifying some of
the famous boats, owners and drivers.
The boat owners travelled from many parts of the State and
Interstate. There were beautifully
restored vintage boats and all classes of power boats, including the famous
Latimer Lodge, Fury and a magnificent white Formula 1 outboard. Boats capable of speeds exceeding 100mph
and holders of many records..
We managed not to run out of food and drinks this year, and the
general consensus was it was a fantastic weekend of fun for all the family. The event is co-hosted by the Forster
Keys Progress and Ratepayers Association and the Rotary Club of Forster on
Wallis.
We would like to thank all the residents who volunteered their time
to help organise and run the weekend, Fred Williams and all his ‘boatie’
friends, and also the many local businesses that provided sponsorship in
one form or another:
