Forster Keys is located to the eastern shore of Wallis Lake and is a canal development supporting some 600 homes. It was started in 1949 when 141 “dry” building blocks were put up for auction by the Sydney based developer Forster Subdivisions Pty Ltd. In 1967 the Forster Keys Estate really commenced with an application to Council for a canal development. This was then undertaken in two stages and completed in 1974.
Initially, the subdivision was fairly basic and the Association became active in pressing for the sealing of roads, street lighting, improved water supply, tree planting and improved drainage. It is a tribute to those earlier members that most of the improvements they sought have been realised and Forster Keys can now be considered among the prime locations in the Great Lakes Council area.
A very interesting and comprehensive history of the Keys was produced in 2006 by a local resident Mr Roy Wyndham. He has produced a story that is easy reading and most importantly historical accurate and impartial in its findings.
Copies of the History can be purchased by contacting the Secretary, Rod Lawton on 6555 2371 or email to plawton@tpgi.com.au. The cost is $20.00 per copy.
