The
Forster Keys Ratepayers and Progress Association had its inaugural meeting
on 15 July 1978. It was formed by an enthusiastic group of
residents with the clear objective of ensuring continuing improvements the
Forster Keys subdivision whilst maintaining the natural beauty of this part
of Forster.
Membership
is open to all property owners and residents of the Keys and it is
indicative of the success that it has enjoyed over the years that it has
maintained a very high rate of membership.
The
Association supports a very willing group of volunteers known as
Dad’s Army who have accepted the responsibility for improving and
maintaining all of the parks and reserves within the subdivision.
Also Dad’s Navy which regularly tests the water quality in the canals
and clears them of any floating debris. Both of these groups work
tirelessly each week and over the years have saved the Great Lakes Council
enormous amounts of money and ensured that Forster Keys is presented to the
highest possible standard.
Forster
Keys has won a number of Tidy Town Awards and until recently hosted the
swim leg of the Ironman Triathlon. Last year it held the first Family
Fun Day and the success of this event appears to have secured its
continuation as an important fund raiser for the Association and the Rotary
Club of Forster on Wallis.
